How can I access the SHAPE training for students?
Log in to the UCSF Canvas log in page to sign in and access the student SHAPE training.
How long does the training take?
The training takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. You do not need to finish it in one sitting; your progress will be saved, allowing you to complete it over multiple sessions.
The course includes several modules and quizzes. To complete the requirement, you must score 10 out of 10 on the final quiz.
Are continuing students required to complete the SHAPE training?
Yes. In accordance with California state law, all UCSF students must complete SHAPE training each academic year, with deadlines set each fall quarter.
When is the training deadline?
The deadline to complete the training is October 19, 2026 at 8 pm.
Students who do not complete the training by this date and time will have an enrollment hold placed on their account, which will prevent enrollment for the remainder of the academic year.
The hold will be removed only after the training is completed, and a score of 10 out of 10 is achieved on the final quiz.
Is there an alternative for students who find the training content triggering?
Yes. If you need an alternative educational activity, contact the confidential CARE Advocate at [email protected].
Is the training ADA-compliant?
Yes. SHAPE training is ADA-compliant. The training homepage includes accessibility information and support resources.
If you experience any issues, contact [email protected] for assistance.
Why is SHAPE training required annually?
SHAPE training ensures students understand their rights and responsibilities.
Annual training is required by state and federal law, as well as University policy, for each academic year (July 1 – June 30).
What if I completed the employee SHAPE training in the UCSF Learning Center?
If you completed the employee SHAPE training in the UCSF Learning Center on or after July 1 of the current academic year, you may be eligible for an exemption from the student training.
To request an exemption, email [email protected]. This step is required because Canvas and the Learning Center do not automatically share completion records.
Who should I contact if I have trouble logging into Canvas?
If you are unable to access the SHAPE training through Canvas, submit a support ticket through UCSF ServiceNow for assistance.
Where can I get technical support for the online course?
If you experience technical issues after logging into the course, contact [email protected].
How do I find the access code for the final quiz?
The access code is provided on the page immediately before the final quiz.
You can also find it by selecting Modules in your course and opening the page titled “Final Quiz Details.” Copy and paste the code when prompted to begin the quiz.
How can I confirm that I completed the training?
You must complete all training modules and pass the required quizzes to progress through the course.
To finish the training, you must score 10 out of 10 on the final quiz. You may retake the quiz until all questions are answered correctly.
Once completed, your total score will display as 10 out of 10 points (see image below).

How do I remove the enrollment hold after completing the training?
You do not need to notify OPHD. The enrollment hold will be automatically removed within one business day after you complete the training.
